There are tons of great movies that were filmed in Vancouver and they have featured some of the biggest stars in the industry. There are a variety of talent agencies and studios located around the lower mainland and film crews are often up here filming big budget television series and movies in the area.
Some popular television shows that have been filmed in B.C. include:
– The X-Files
– The L Word
– Fear of the Walking Dead
These are just a few of the very popular series that have been filmed for years in the area, many of them filmed in Vancouver for years. Some of these television shows have been filmed for 10 years or more like Supernatural seeing 15 seasons or Smallville with 10.
These shows have had dedicated followings and for good reason, they’re some great shows to watch. But there are a ton of movies that have been filmed here as well. If you want to see a movie that has been filmed in Vancouver then consider one from the list below.
Here are 5 movies that have been filmed in Vancouver, B.C. and around the area.
5. Hot Tub Time Machine
Hot Tub Time Machine was filmed in Vancouver and featured John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, Clark Duke, Crispin Glover, Chevy Chase, and others. It was directed by Steve Pink and produced by John Cusack with others. The movie even spawned a sequel by the name Hot Tub Time Machine 2 that was released a few years ago. It’s a science fiction comedy film that centers on a group of friends that find a hot tub that takes them back to 1986s. Not to give too much away, it’s fun to watch and a light comedy with some familiar faces.
The film didn’t do that bad at the box office and if you are a fan of Cusack or the others then you might really enjoy this comedy flick. It didn’t receive overwhelmingly positive reviews though and might not be for everyone. But if you are looking for something that has a sequel that comes along with it then check out Hot Tub Time Machine if you haven’t yet. Rob Corddry has been in other popular comedy films like Blades of Glory, The Heartbreak Kid, Old School, Failure to Launch, Semi-Pro, What Happens in Vegas, and Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. He is a familiar face and a great addition to any comedy film it seems.
Where was where hot tub time machine filmed? It was mainly filmed at the Vancouver Film Studios but was also filmed at the Fernie Alpine Resort that is located in Fernie, B.C. The 2nd one though wasn’t the same and they headed down south instead with the story, all the way down to New Orleans.
There were several movies that were filmed here in Vancouver that were big names and of course there were several Twilight series films that took place here. New Moon filmed some here, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn also filmed in Vancouver.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse filmed at the Vancouver Film Studios, along with other locations. There were also frequent stories in the media about the stars being seen around town, shopping or watching concerts together. They spent several years getting to know one another and working together on the Twilight Series.
There are many areas around the lower mainland that have been recognized in the films and you can easily go and see them either driving by or walking right past.
For example, there were some scenes that were filmed near Columbia street in New Moon with Bella or Kristin Stewart, and Anna Kendrick, that might look familiar to some who are from the area.
You can walk by today and still see some of the same stores that you see there in the footage of her walking across the street. This might have been one of the biggest movie franchises to ever film in Vancouver.
It smashed records in box offices and raked in millions of dollars, loved by millions around the world, you know how it went. If you are looking for something nostalgic and entertaining to watch while in lockdown then think about this one that was filmed around Vancouver, or any of the other Twilight movies that were as well.
2012 was a huge blockbuster film that raked in almost $1 billion, seeing more than $791 million at the box office since being released back in 2009. This had hundreds of local actors coming in from the Vancouver region to work for this one, they had a huge budget as well of about $200 million to put the project together.
This natural disaster film is unlike any others, distinct on its own, produced by the great Roland Emmerich who also brought us Godzilla, The Patriot, The Day After Tomorrow, 10 000 BC, White House Down, and Independence Day. He is well known for his disaster style movies that have done very well at the box office.
2012 was another banger of a film and if you haven’t seen it yet then I highly recommend it. This is a great Vancouver-made project that is worth the 158 minutes.
The film stars John Cusack with Amanda Peet, Oliver Platt, Thandie Newton, Danny Glover, and Woody Harrelson playing the crazy guy in the woods that loves his pickles and doomsday predictions. This is a great reason to watch all alone just for Harrleson and his performance.
Fantastic Four is a decent action film with Kerry Washington, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and others. It saw huge success at the box office making over $300 million and directed by Tim Story who also brought us smash hits like Taxi and Barbershop. There are several films in the Fantastic Four series so if you want to get into this one then you will want to take your time and see them in order so that you’ve got the full picture.
The Fantastic Four team in the Fantastic Four Silver Surfer film learn that they are not the only super-powered beings that exist in the universe and this might end up causing some trouble for them. One of those potential threats is the Silver Surfer who they eventually learn of, and face off against. I liked this one as a kid and found it very entertaining. If you are looking for some Chris Evans or Jessica Alba action then this is your film.
Deadpool was filmed around the Vancouver region of British Columbia. Ryan at the time had thanked locals for putting up with road closures that were related to the filming of the movie.
Ryan Reynolds is one of the biggest Canadian stars in history and thankfully has brought that success and his film projects back home to support the local economy. Deadpool 2 was also filmed in British Columbia. We see that other Canadian actors like him have also done the same before, like Seth Rogen, bringing work home and employing local Vancouverites and those in B.C. to be extras in their projects.
To say that Deadpool was iconic is an understatement to say the least.
Deadpool was based on the Marvel Comics character that goes by the same name and was a superhero film that brought in more than $700 million around the world. Featuring Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T. J. Miller, Gina Carano, and others, directed by Tim Miller, it was easy for some to anticipate that it was going to be a slam dunk.
These are just some of the hits to check out that were filmed in Vancouver, there are many more like Deadpool 2, 50 Shades of Grey, I Robot, and many other great pieces of art. If you want to get something fresh going this weekend while staying in and enjoying some good food, check one of these films out that was filmed in Vancouver if you haven’t yet. Surely there are many more to come as well. You can check on what is filming in B.C. right now and see that it is always chaning.
